Who is Jamie Kalvestran?

A Minneapolis College of Art and Design graduate, Jamie Kalvestran is known for her skillful use of color and pattern, authentic design, and integrity of materials. Her portfolio includes three design patents and original products spanning many industries, including equestrian accessories: textiles, quilting, home fashions, toys, sporting goods, and children’s products.

Jamie lives and works in Minnesota in an old hardware store built in 1900. She made her first quilt in 1981. Her mother was a quilter and Jamie didn’t know it was something you learned. She thought, “Just like cooking, it was just something you did”.

In 2004, she began her sewing and quilting pattern line branded, Scrap-bags. These patterns are available in independent quilt shops and online at jamiekalvestrandesign.com

Jamie’s latest “Figurative Improv Quilts” which she began in January of 2024, have brought her full circle. She begins with “Art” creating paintings and mixed media pieces, which she uses to design quilt fabrics, and with those fabrics, she creates her “Art Quilts” completing the creative circle.
