Textile Talks: Jim Arendt - Denim and Persistence in Difficult Times |
Dare to Dream in Denim
Presented by SAQA: "Jim Arendt's practice is rooted in understanding how we relate to labor. His close proximity to the manufacturing and agrarian landscapes of America, as well as the dramatic shifts in both sectors of the economy during Jim's lifetime, has led him to pursue an understanding of America's people and craft. Working primarily in donated denim on his mom's Kenmore sewing machine, Jim creates complex portraiture. He also spends time caring for a fleet of vintage industrial sewing machines that find their way into his garage studio."
Register today and watch when this episode airs this Wednesday, May 6, 2026, at 2 PM EDT. |

The Quilt Show Puzzle: A "Jubilation" of Joyful Quilting |

"Tribal Jubilation" by Nina Clotfelter
When Nina's son was in high school, he made tribal drawings. So she got him to make a drawing with some spaces between it, and then she feathered said spaces on her machine using metallic thread. This design became Nina's quilt, Tribal Jubilation. After doing this, Nina says her son felt that she "ruined" the drawing. Our very own Alex Anderson had a different opinion though, and felt that what Nina did was actually pretty wonderful.
