Featured Quilt - "C"are to See Janet Stone's Third Alphabet Quilt?

Today we continue with our presentation of the quilts in Janet Stone's Alphabet series, currently hanging in the National Quilt Museum as part of her exhibit, Janet Stone: And Now I Know My ABCs!. Janet tells us that "each quilt contains the entire alphabet, not just a specific letter."

The third quilt is Alphabet Alchemy, which strays a bit from the more traditional approach Janet took with the first two quilts in the series. She says, "This is a more contemporary style crazy quilt using a simple grid design. I pieced each block individually, wrapped the piece around a stiff Pellon interfacing, then machine sewed the letters. I quilted the background, then placed and glued the blocks to the background, along with using brads to attach them at the corners. I used a vinyl trim that I cut apart to cover the back of the brads on the backside."

Janet's quilts in the series have been collected and presented together in her most recent book, Mutton But Letters!, which is available to purchase in her Etsy shop or in the gift shop of The National Quilt Museum.

And a fun fact from Janet about this quilt: "I cut apart some of the flowers on the vinyl trim to use as part of the prairie point border."

The Quilt Show Puzzle: The Kickoff to a Modern Quilting Career

"Offset" by Audrey Esarey

Offset is one of the quilts that Audrey made in the summer of 2018 when she was hopeful that she would have a quilt juried into QuiltCon. She entered Offset in with the hopes of it making the cut, and Audrey considers it her first original design. It in turn spawned a series, which Audrey had never worked in before. Her original thinking being, "Why would I make something again when I've already made something that looks kind of like that?" She realized quickly that that was a naïve approach because she needed all these quilts in a series to express all the different ideas that she had.
