Featured Quilt - Do You Know Your ABCs?
Well, Janet Stone certainly does, as she's been working on her Alphabet series of quilts for the past eighteen years. Consisting of TWENTY-SIX quilts, with each one corresponding to a letter of the alphabet, Janet's Alphabet quilts are now fully complete and hanging in the National Quilt Museum as part of her exhibit, Janet Stone: And Now I Know My ABCs! On our visit to AQS QuiltWeek in Paducah this past month, The Quilt Show paid a visit to Janet's exhibit at the museum to admire her quilts. They were spectacular, and since we loved them so much, we thought you would too. So, we will be sharing Janet's Alphabet quilts with you, from A to Z, in the coming weeks and months, starting with quilt number one, Letters From a Broad.
Janet says, "This is the quilt that started all this madness! I created this quilt to fit a specific wall in my house. Each block was pieced, appliquéd, and quilted separately, then all were hand sewn together. I entered it in a quilt show, my very first one, and it won 3 awards and some nice prize money, and I thought, well I wanna do this again!! I had so many ideas for other alphabet quilts that I decided I was going to create a series of 26 quilts, all featuring the alphabet!"
A fun fact from Janet too about this quilt: "This quilt has never hung on the wall I made it for!" |

The Quilt Show Puzzle: A Wholehearted Quilt |

"Her Whole Heart" by Lezleigh Kleibrink
Her Whole Heart was made for Lezleigh's friend Lisa's mom, Patricia, who had passed. Lezleigh was tasked with making a quilt for four siblings, meaning she had to make the clothes she was given as material to create the quilt go a long way. And what better way is there to make your material last than to make a strip quilt from it. So instead of there being one quilt to be shared by four siblings, Lezleigh was able to create four quilts and several pairs from her raw materials, including Her Whole Heart.
