Featured Quilt - First Place Appliqué at QuiltCon 2026
The Quilter by Katherine Jones won First Place - Appliqué (Sponsored by Twin Essential Quilt Shop) at QuiltCon 2026. Katherine says, "Based on a self-portrait painted in 2021 of me working on my longarm, this quilt depicts me looking down with concentration on what I am making. My original painting emulated Chuck Close's later portraits, where an on-point grid is used to "turn one big overwhelming problem" of painting a portrait "into thousands of little more solvable problems", each square being a small abstract composition, a method that naturally lends itself to quilt making."

From watching one of our FREE Shows, to working on this year's Block Of the Month, nothing sounds like more of a good time then spending this weekend celebrating quilting here with us at The Quilt Show.

Three Wonderful Artists Are Acknowledged
From the American Folk Art Museum: "On May 6, the American Folk Art Museum celebrates its 65th anniversary by recognizing three remarkable leaders whose work expands the possibilities of art and culture. The evening promises to be extraordinary as we honor a vibrant slate of visionaries, including contemporary self-taught artist vanessa german; Broadway icon and talented quilter Harvey Fierstein; and Elizabeth V. Warren, folk art scholar, curator, collector, and AFAM's outgoing Board President, for her forty-plus years of transformative leadership." |

The Quilt Show Puzzle: Something To "Laugh" About |
"To Laugh Often" by Susan Lenz
Thinking about time, memory, and how you want to define yourself to the generations that will never know you, Susan decided to adorn, and name, her quilt, To Laugh Often, after a quote she adores by Ralph Waldo Emerson. While many people think that Susan and her quilts are all about death, due to featuring grave rubbings in much of her work, she really loves life and felt the Emerson quote really spoke to it. Since she couldn't find the quote on any gravestone for a rubbing, she rubbed letter by letter, from tombstone to tombstone, the entire quote on a big piece of silk using a black crayon.
Learn about Surface Application from Susan, and our other Surface Design Masters, in our second Surface Design Masterclass, Using Surface Applications | Surface Design Masterclass 2. |
