Racing Stripes by Kelly Spell won the MQG Award of Excellence (Sponsored by the Modern Quilt Guild) at QuiltCon 2026. About what she wanted to accomplish with this quilt, Kelly said, "My goal for this quilt was to create the illusion of motion using hand-dyed, color-to-color gradations. To achieve that effect, I used liquid Procion MX dyes in three hues: hot pink and wasabi to match the two rings, and forest green to match the background fabric. The gradations fade across the stripes as the rings race toward each other." |
