Featured Quilt - A Quilt in Colorful Bloom

Las calas de Valdivia by Pilar Donoso was featured in the In Full Bloom exhibit at the Houston International Quilt Festival 2025. About the exhibit, Houston says, "Just as quilters create beautiful art with fabric, florists and gardeners cultivate works of beauty from the soil. This exhibit showcases floral-inspired quilts from across the spectrum in lush color and splendor."

As for Pilar's quilt and its creation, she says, "Color is my love language and my way of connecting with the world. Las calas de Valdivia was born in a fish market, where the vibrant colors of the lilies stood out against the metallic sheen of the seafood. The photo I took allowed me to capture that instant, and through quilting, I could truly reinterpret it and make it my own. Throughout the process, I observed nature in a new way, letting color guide me to create an emotional image."

The Met: Conserving the King Arthur Tapestry

Keeping a Tapestry in Tip-Top Shape

From The Met: "Follow the conservation treatment of “King Arthur” from the “Nine Heroes Tapestries” series, among the oldest in The Met’s collection. The tapestry had not been treated since 1949, when it first came into The Met’s collection. Watch as conservators clean, stabilize, and reweave fragile areas of the work, finally reinstalling it at The Cloisters."

We’ll explore their origins, the stories behind them, and why each was chosen for inclusion in Love You to Pieces. Ultimately, her hope is that this Textile Talk and Q&A becomes its own shared story—one that connects us, inspires us, and maybe even sparks new friendships along the way."

The Quilt Show Puzzle: An Explosion of Circles

"Circular Momentum" by Becky Goldsmith

With every quilt she makes, Becky likes to think of the challenge that each will present to her. For Circular Momentum, she wanted an explosion of circles. So the challenge was making every circle on the quilt using needle turned hand appliqué. The quilt was originally intended for a Christmas book, but at the time of its making Becky was so over Christmas motifs that she went with a take that she calls "marginally Winter". Becky says the fun part of the quilt is the way that the circles expand into the border to take the feeling outward.
