Featured Quilt - Outstanding Machine Quilting Frame at Road to California 2026

East Meets West by Molly Hamilton-McNally with Yange Gong won Outstanding Machine Quilting Frame (Sponsored by Janome) at Road to California 2026. Last year, Molly and Yange's quilt took home First Place - Balanced Piecing and Appliqué (Sponsord by BERNINA) at the Houston International Quilt Festival 2025.

The quilt takes two artists' approach to design and blends them together into one unique and special work of art, as explained in their artist statement. "This quilt has an interesting and unusual background. It’s a unique collaboration and combination of the skills of two women, a Chinese student and her Chinese-American teacher. It shows the meeting of the East and West by incorporating the two traditional methods of paper piecing, the Western technique at the center of the quilt, and hand appliqué for the Eastern surrounding designs. The entire quilt is made of silk. Art unites the world."

Use The Fabrics and Designs from the Past to Create a Contemporary Quilt

Tara Miller shares her methods for blending traditional patterns of all eras and designers into a single, bold contemporary quilt. In our latest show she delivers her take on the 1880s-1900s fan blade craze and accents her designs with hand-embroidery.

Texas Tech: Quilt That Records Guild History

From the Museum of Texas Tech University: "This quilt features a fabulous way to document your quilt guild's history. Using hexies, signatures, and some fabric from Spoonflower, everyone who worked on the quilt has now been documented. This might be something to try with your guild."

The Quilt Show Puzzle: Climbing The Steps

"One Step at a Time" by Lisa Walton

Based on a prompt of 'time', Lisa took a photo of a stairway in Edinburgh, Scotland and the first thing she thought of when she saw the worn steps, was how many thousands of feet had walked up and down those steps over time. From that thought and photo, she created this quilt, One Step at a Time.
