Featured Quilt - The Countdown Begins...
Tomorrow is first day of 2026, but before that happens we need to celebrate the end of 2025. And what better way to do that than with the appropriately titled New Year's Eve. New Year's Eve is by Judith Beaver and won First Place in the Abstract category at the Houston International Quilt Festival 2022.
Judith says of her quilt, which commemorates the holiday in Hawaii, "New Year’s Eve in Hawaii is an incredible experience. All night long, the air is filled with overhead aerials bursting into magnificent colors, and the smoke from firecrackers is thick in the air. All the neighbors are out in the street toasting one another and the new year. The next morning, all is silent, but the streets are littered with red paper left from the exploded firecrackers." |

Becky Goldsmith begins her first demo by reviewing the progression of the center medallion of Game On!, the TQS 2026 Block Of the Month, which will be assembled over months 1 through 3. Then, learn how to assemble and appliqué the four-patch center circle for month 3, and how Becky’s appliqué templates—with reference lines and a clear overlay—provide visual guidance to help ensure accuracy for both the center four-patch circles and outer appliquéd circles.

"A Happy New Year, "Kado-Matu" in the Rising Sun" by Mihoko Tanaka
At Houston 2016 there was a wonderful Japanese Exhibit organized by the Japan Handicrafts Instructors' Association. A Happy New Year, "Kado-Matu" in the Rising Sun by Mihoko Tanaka was part of the exhibit and is a wonderful celebration of the New Year to come. Mihoko says, "Kado-Matu or "Gate-Pine" is a flower arrangement wishing happiness and blessing for the coming New Year. It can be 1 to 10 feet high and is placed at the gate of homes in Japan for the New Year holidays. It can be compared to Christmas trees in the Christian world."
