See Martha Washington's Needle Book
From George Washington's Mount Vernon, "According to tradition, we believe Martha Washington made this needle book and pincushion. Both are embroidered with silver and silk thread and feature colorful birds amid berry bushes."
More From George Washington's Mount Vernon:
"Intended to be hung from the waistband by the ribbon, the needle book safely stored needles in the layers of red wool inside. The receptacle was opened by applying pressure on either side of the "mouth," allowing access to the interior. The pincushion was originally attached to one side of the needle book."
